We use inverse operations to solve the equation for a variable.
 

For example, consider the equation 2a = 4.
 

Here, 2 is multiplied by a on the left side.

So, to find the value of a, we use inverse operation of multiplication, that is, division.
 

Dividing both sides by 2, we get:
